Real Time Radiography
Datasheets

Real Time Radiography, or RTR, is a unique and proven system used successfully for many years throughout the nuclear industry for the non-destructive inspection of containerised wastes.

This high resolution X-Ray technique accurately identifies non-compliant items within transuranic and low level mixed waste materials, providing the data needed to characterise waste streams without the need to physically access individual containers.

" A unique, high resolution technique that identifies non-compliant items within transuranic and low level mixed wastes "

RTR achieves 100% inspection, identifying the physical composition of the waste while locating and characterizing non-compliant materials such as aerosol cans, free liquids, HEPA filters and lead acid batteries.

RTR utilises high energy X-Rays to penetrate the container, generating images that are then intensified to provide exceptional clarity, with fine detail and contrast.

The speed, accuracy and convenience with which RTR provides the information to meet regulatory requirements on waste consignment and disposal can lead to significant cost reductions.

RTR also delivers cost and time saving benefits in other nuclear applications. These include non-destructive examination of welds in pressure vessels, fuel rods and other components, assessment of container integrity prior to storage and inspection and analysis of core drilled specimens taken from hot samples drawn from underground storage tanks.

BNFL Instruments has teamed with VJ Technologies, the world’s leading provider of RTR, to offer this high performance non-destructive measurement technique to the nuclear industry, providing dedicated sales, service and technical support for all territories outside the USA.
