DISPIM Mobile Plutonium Monitor
Datasheets

DISPIM is a highly adapatable, mobile, modular-designed assay system that can be easily and rapidly configured to measure the plutonium content of a wide range of object sizes and shapes.

DISPIM uses unique, state-of-the-art, performance-proven neutron counting technology, to determine both the mass and the distribution of the plutonium in an object.

Available for purchase or as a service option, operated by a trained member of the VT Nuclear Services team, DISPIM supports decommissioning, waste management, special investigations and security procedures within nuclear facilities throughout Europe and the USA.

DISPIM’s neutron counting modules are identical and they can be assembled very flexibly into a variety of configurations to suit the object that is being monitored. Modules can be easily extracted form the assembly and re-deployed in free space or in an alternative arrangement.

Neutron signal data is collected and processed remotely via a PC using neutron counting technology based on the time stamping of pulses from the detectors. This results in high-speed acquisition of data and improved measurement performance. The adaptability of the DISPIM software enables both total neutron counting and neutron coincidence counting analysis methods to be applied to the data stream. A high-resolution gamma spectroscopy can also be added to DISPIM for the determination of plutonium isotopic content.

DISPIM is a very robustly built system – designed to operate in harsh environments and is typically deployed in the measurement of items such as glove boxes, drums and crates, packets, filters, decommissioning wastes, process vessels, vehicles, shipping containers and parcels.
